# Transfer Units to Another Account Holder

{% hint style="warning" %}
Transfers always take the **last** units of a batch, while conversion to ECUs starts with the **first**. Read [Before You Transfer: Batches and Conversion](/registry/transfers/before-you-transfer-batches-and-conversion.md) before your first transfer.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Check everything before you submit.** Equitable Earth does not reverse transfers made in error by account holders. Double-check the recipient and the quantity.
{% endhint %}

You can transfer your units at any time, whatever the status of the project they come from.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Log in

Log in to the Equitable Earth Registry.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Initiate the transfer

Open the **Operations** drop-down at the top of your homepage and select **Initiate Transfer**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose the recipient

In the **Select Batch Criteria** section on the left pane, select **Another Account Holder** from the Transfer Type drop-down, then select the Account Holder that will receive the assets.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add optional criteria

Optionally narrow the selection by Project and/or Transfer Quantity.

{% hint style="info" %}
In the **Transfer Quantity** field you can enter the total number of assets to transfer, without manually selecting batches in the right pane.
{% endhint %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### View assets

Select **View Assets**. The right pane populates with results matching your batch criteria.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you entered a Transfer Quantity, the Transfer Quantity column shows the selected quantities for batches up to that amount.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select your assets

In the **Select Your Assets** section on the right pane, either select **Select All** or enter specific quantities in the Transfer Quantity column.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Select All** and **Clear All** only affect the asset batches on the current page.
{% endhint %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Submit

Select **Submit** to transfer the assets to the Account Holder you selected.

![](https://2569783243-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FED6lPsyoF2iHXq92LOvD%2Fuploads%2FPVoONUmfHwWMlJAjBGJe%2Ftransfer-05-submit.png?alt=media)
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## What happens next

After you initiate the transfer, automated emails are sent to both the Transferor and the Transferee. The assets are marked as **Pending** in the Transferor's Outbox until the Transferee accepts or rejects the transfer.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the Transferee rejects the transfer, or does not accept it within 14 days, the assets are returned to the Transferor's account.
{% endhint %}

## Limits

* ECUs can't currently be transferred out of the Registry to another registry.
* A unit is owned by only one account at a time, and can only be transferred to one account at a time.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.eq-earth.com/registry/transfers/transfer-units-to-another-account-holder.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
